"Velocity of Money"
1) The economy's fall has much to do with the uproar in the movement and function of the people of America.
2) People in authority, such as the president, city hall, etc., have refrained from resorting to books and such for knowledge on how to fix the fall in economy, resulting in a bigger stress on the economy's existance.
3) Lee Berton describes the velocity of money is "whistling through windows" as a way to say that money in the economy is there one second, and gone the next.
4) Lee Berton means to say the American people won't slow down and give the economy time to fix itself, instead they are "running after the rising dollar" and adjust to the high prices of the economy.
5) By saying he was always a communist, Berton may be saying the communist way is much more proficient than the traditional American ways.
6) When he sayed "useless gold", Berton may have meant that even the most expensive good in America is useless at this point in the economy.
break down example:
The line stating "books thicker & dumber" is a contradictory statement. Usually thick books are considered to be full of facts and theories, so for them to be getting dumber the thicker they get is very unusual.

Tues 1/26 "Visual Rhetoric beginning"

This picture represents myself. It says everything I am not willing to tell other people, what I have been telling myself, and what I am feeling. The paint on my face reveals the artistic side of me that I never tell anyone about. The paint represents my love for painting, singing, making music, drawing, creating, etc. The text “Don’t hide the talent” was just one small piece of advice given to me from an old friend who encouraged me to pursue my dreams. Those four words are what keep me pressing on through life, and they pretty much define how I live. I am covering my mouth because my initial reaction in any case is to keep my mouth shut. I am very timid when it comes to my talent, and I feel the covering of my mouth portrays that. I made sure to make eye contact with the camera because it reveals a bit of courage in me. The lighting is all about how I am feeling. I am still not ready to reveal all of my gifts and talents (hence the shadow), but I am starting to show that a little more each day (hence the light).

I see tragedy and hope in to elderly women walking through a flooded street while an army tank, full of soldiers, is on their way to rescue them.
She sees what is actually going on.
Disaster.
A tragedy has occured, bring hard, sad times.

This picture represents tragedy, but not exactly how the people are dealing with it, or any hope of salvation.

Thurs 1/14 "Representing Reality"
I found the fourteenth chapter on “Representing Reality” rather interesting. I find it just as interesting that I am blogging about blogging and video blogging. I agree with the way the chapter describes pictures that actually represent reality; all pictures in some way show the reality of a certain situation. Also, many bloggers show their truest reality through blogs and videos. I read many blogs and am intrigued by their honesty in their words. Reality can be represented by just one snap of a camera. And it is never just one reality: there are millions of different realities, millions of stories that can all be represented by a picture.

This picture is an advertisement for a yoga center. At first glance, the picture reflects that the yoga center will help teach to be flexible. The first way it does this was by having the girl in the picture do a backbend in the shape of the flexy-straw. Of course a person interested in yoga would be intrigued by a backbend. The person viewing the advertisement, though, is supposed to gain from the picture that, not only will you learn a backbend at yoga center, but also you will learn other ways to stretch. The viewer would get this from the representation of the flexy-straw. The straw can bend any way imaginable, so the viewer would infer that the girl in the backbend would also be able to bend those directions. What the article is not directly selling, is the cleansing that comes with practicing yoga. The straw represents the flowing, or cleansing, of substance, meaning: one who practices yoga will feel cleansed.

This is the un-edited version of the picture I have chosen for the visual rhetoric assignment.

Tues 1/12 "Visual Reading"
Thurs 1/7 "Learning Development"
My good friend saw an ad when she was around 16 years old. The article was an advertisement for weight-loss. Being a teenage girl, my friend was influenced heavily by the ad. It persuaded her that she needed to slim down. She insisted that she start “fasting”, as she called it, in order to lose the weight more quickly. For weeks, my friend starved herself. She looked terrible – she had deep, dark circles around her eyes and her bones were practically tearing through her skin. She was tired all of the time and very weak. She ended up going to rehab and also getting some therapy for her eating disorder. Tons of money was spent on her recovery.
My friend was convinced by one ad, one picture that was edited to make the model look perfect, to harm herself. By that ad, she thought that she could only being accepted and be beautiful if she lost a bunch of weight. Her identity got lost in the advertisement. In my friend’s case, the ad was heavily convincing.
